What’s New in 5.3

Updated: 08/26/2025

Live2D Cubism gets a major update to version 5.3!
Please see below for a detailed description of the new features.

Blend mode

The existing blend method has been expanded to [Blend mode]!
More than 10 different color blends using RGB and alpha blending by alpha can be set individually.
This enables advanced drawing expressions comparable to those of paint tools, which were difficult to achieve with conventional Cubism.

See “Blend mode” for details.

Offscreen drawing

[Offscreen drawing] functionality is now supported for parts!
“Offscreen drawing” is the ability to draw multiple objects in memory and then transfer them to the canvas.
When on, you can set opacity, clipping ID, etc. for parts.
This allows the opacity to be adjusted without worrying about overlapping objects in a part.

See “Offscreen drawing” for more information.

Enhanced brush tools

New brush shapes “Square” and “Line” have been added to the brush shapes used with the deform brush tool and the brush selection tool!
This addition allows for more flexible selection and deformation according to the ArtMesh shape.

In addition, an “Expansion brush” has been added to the Deform Brush Tool, which allows you to create deformations that expand and contract as if you were looking through a fisheye lens.

See “Deform brushes” for more information.

Warp deformer resizing aid

When a child element extends beyond the parent deformer, the warp deformer is now automatically extended to match the child element’s keyform!
This allows for easy correction of child element protrusions while maintaining the existing behavior of the parent deformer, even after parameters have been set.

For more information, see “Combination of Parent-Child Hierarchy.”

Added WebM to video output settings

A new WebM format has been added to the video output settings format, which can also be exported as a video with a transparent background!
This format can be used in a variety of situations, such as videos that introduce works on the official Live2D market “nizima” and editing materials in Live2D’s official online video editor “nizima ACTION!!.”

This video is made with Live2D’s official online video editor “nizima ACTION!!.”

See “Image and Video Export” for details.
